This
major new monument, designed by David Backhouse, is a powerful
and moving tribute to all the animals that served, suffered and
died alongside British and allied forces over the centuries.
The
memorial was unveiled by HRH The Princesss Royal on 24th November
2004 at Brook Gate, Park Lane, London.
The
memorial has received enthusiastic endorsement from many. It
includes four free standing bronzes, two mules, a horse and a
dog, and a 70ft long Portland stone wall carved with the many
different animals that served.

"I consider this to be an excellent project, long
overdue – so many animals suffered and died in the wars
and this memorial will be a fitting tribute to them. David
Backhouse has an outstanding talent and his design for this
memorial will I am sure appeal to young and old generations
alike.”
The Duke of Westminster
“I
have seen the memorial and am thrilled by the overall concept,
and visual, emotional and lasting impact for good which it
is likely to have on all who visit it. It could become one
of London’s best loved and most visited memorials.”
Philip Malins MBE MC
The International Friendship and Reconciliation Trust
“I
only have to think of those paintings in the National Army
Museum of the artillery horses to feel that this is a wonderful
cause indeed.”
